It is speculated that Apple will retain the 60Hz display refresh rate on its entry-level models, and the iPhone 16 Pro will retain its 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. Apple’s entry-level phones are not expected to feature 120Hz LTPO displays until the iPhone 17, which is expected to launch in 2025.

Apple may decide to use A18 chips as the silicon for the simple iPhone 16 instead of recycling the A17 Pro processors that currently power the iPhone 15 Pro phones.
Each model will have a different chipset, however. While we expect Pro silicon for the iPhone 16 Pro, the simple iPhone 16 is expected to get a simple A18 processor. This is similar to how Apple handles the M-series chips found in the MacBook lineup.
While this is not the case with the iPhone 15 series, it is still being speculated that all 4 phones will be capable of powering Apple Intelligence’s on-device AI functions.
The only iPhone that comes with 256GB of storage in its base model is the iPhone 15 Pro Max. This capacity could also be included in the iPhone 16 Pro, assuming Apple doesn’t increase the Pro Max’s storage to appease customers upset by the model’s price hike.

Although a larger iPhone 16 Pro could make room for a bigger battery, we haven’t heard much about any improvements to the iPhone 16 lineup’s battery. One rumor we’ve heard so far is that Apple is looking into ways to improve heat dispersion for its phones’ batteries, possibly by using a frosted metal shell and new connectors for the battery. This would address some of the overheating issues that often plague the Pro models.
If we were to speculate about potential updates, the iPhone 16 Pro’s charging speeds could vary. With the iPhone 15 series, Apple switched to USB-C, but the company didn’t fully utilize the faster charging speeds enabled by the standard. (USB-C offers better data transfer speeds for the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max.) To differentiate the iPhone 16 Pro from the regular iPhone 16, it’s possible that Apple will increase the Pro variant’s charging speed from the current 20W.

The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro will have iOS 18 preinstalled when they arrive. It appears that the main emphasis of this upcoming software upgrade will be on artificial intelligence; some have speculated that Apple might introduce its own chatbot. In short, what we’re discussing is a more advanced Siri that can handle tricky tasks.
It’s unclear at this time what those tasks might be. Given that the A18 chipset powers both iPhones, the iPhone 16 and 16 Pro should have enough processing capability to fully handle AI functions on the device.
Sadly, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max are the only earlier models that have the hardware needed to support Apple intelligence. However, depending on how much RAM is available, there is also concern that the iPhone 16 will have difficulty using some capabilities.
