The estimated September release date of the iPhone 16 series is still a few months away, but a number of rumours have already surfaced that suggest some pleasant internal and external improvements. And all of them are covered in the text below.

iPhone 16 Pro: Rumored price and potential release date
Apple seems to release its phones in the fall every year, and 2024 will be no different. We expect the iPhone 16 variants to launch in September, as this is when Apple typically announces its product. Here’s our forecast of potential iPhone 16 release dates for a more accurate estimate.
It’s too early to discuss pricing, but given the $100 price hike over the iPhone 15 Pro Max last year, concerns about the iPhone 16’s price are reasonable. While it’s always possible that more recent models, like the iPhone 16 Pro, will be more expensive due to rising component costs, it’s clear that Apple prefers to sell Pro phones at $999. Pushing the iPhone 16 Pro out of that price range would probably require a really big event.
iPhone 16 Pro rumours: Design rumours
Apple used titanium for the iPhone 15 Pro series to create a more robust and lightweight phone. The same is expected to be the case with the iPhone 16 Pro, which is highly likely to retain the USB-C port that Apple introduced in the current iPhone range.
The new action button added to the mute switch on the iPhone 15 Pro models is reportedly making its way to all iPhone 16 models, not just the Pro. According to another speculation, all new models will feature a capture button that will allow users to capture content using the phone’s camera and perhaps focus with a slight push. According to the leaked cases, the action and capture buttons are present on all models of the iPhone 16.
The Mag Safe wireless charging ring on all four new models, including the iPhone 16 Pro, will be thinner, according to several iPhone 16 dummy devices that have surfaced. This could lead to less mass and better charging.

There are rumors flying around that the iPhone 16 Pro will come in four color options: Space Black, Silver, Gray, or White, as well as an all-new Rose color. The same source further added that these colors will be implemented using the same infused glass design found on the base variant of the iPhone 15.
Several iPhone 16 Pro cases were leaked in a post on X, which suggest that the Pro will have a much larger camera island than previous versions. Despite being a substantial increase, this makes sense in view of the many speculations that the iPhone 16 Pro’s cameras will be bigger.
iPhone 16 Pro: Display rumors
Regarding the display, one can assume that Apple will continue to use the same 6.1-inch panel for the Pro model that it has been using for several years. But according to a rumor, Apple could go for a bigger screen, with the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max/Ultra having 6.3 and 6.9-inch panels, respectively. This is confirmed by prototype-based renders of the iPhone 16 Pro. Given the increase in size, a larger battery will likely be included as well.

For the iPhone 15 Pro, Apple never used Samsung’s bright panels, which many analysts had predicted. However, according to a rumor, Apple intends to increase the brightness of the iPhone 16 Pro by up to 20% compared to its predecessor. In fact, according to a recent report, Samsung will provide Apple with state-of-the-art OLED panels for the iPhone 16 Pro versions, meaning the final product will have 20% brighter displays than the original product.

It may be surprising that not much information has emerged about the iPhone 16 Pro’s potential camera configuration, given how important cameras are to a mobile device even today. But according to some of the anecdotal reports we’ve heard, there may be some adjustments.
The most persistent speculation about the iPhone 16 Pro’s cameras is that the tetraprism telephoto lens, which made its debut on the iPhone 15 Pro Max, will be included in the range of other Pro models. (Research firms TrendForce and Samsung Securities, as well as multiple sources within Apple’s supply chain are now making this claim). This would increase the iPhone 16 Pro’s optical zoom to perhaps 5x, the same as the iPhone 15 Pro Max. It’s possible that a new telephoto lens is on the way, which would improve zoom camera performance and reduce size and weight.
Additionally, rumors claim that the ultrawide lens on the iPhone 16 Pro could get an update from the 12MP sensor it currently has. According to an exclusive report, all Pro models will include a 48MP ultrawide lens, continuing Google’s recent Pixel 8 Pro trend. After mold and mockup leaks, it appears that Apple could add spatial video capture to other iPhone 16 models as well, even if it’s only available on the most recent Pro models.
For anyone looking to upgrade their iPhone selfie camera, it may be worth looking beyond the iPhone 16 series. Apple’s current 12MP sensor will reportedly be upgraded to 24MP in the iPhone 17 model series.
Apple is rumored to be working on a new lens coating for one or more of these cameras. This is expected to make lens flares look better in images. Some competing phones can handle lens flares better than the iPhone.
iPhone 16 Pro: Performance and specs rumours
We can guess that the trend of Pro models getting the best mobile silicon from Apple for the last two updates will continue on the iPhone 16 Pro as well. Analyst Jeff Pu has specifically predicted that the next A18 Pro system-on-chip, which we’ve heard can deliver some great performance benchmark results, will be included in all iPhone 16 Pro variants.
It’s interesting to note that Pu also believes that the 3nm A18 chip – although comparatively less powerful – will power the basic iPhone 16. However, at least one iteration of the chipset may feature additional die space, allowing for more transistors and specialized circuitry that could improve the performance of on-device AI. For some AI processing tasks, Apple may still need to rely on cloud servers.
Additionally, there are rumors that Apple is planning to increase the power of the Neural Engine NPU for the A18 chip generation. This could indicate that it has more AI processing capability than any other product sold by Apple.
However, the performance of the A18 Pro may not be as impressive as it could have been. The reported Geekbench CPU tests return better results than the A17 Pro chip, but they also reveal lower scores than predicted results for the next Snapdragon or Dimensity CPUs.
Apple intends to have plenty of stock of chips regardless of the A18’s performance. According to the report, Apple has ordered 100 million silicon chips to meet anticipated iPhone 16 demand.
The first Apple phone to come pre-installed with 256GB of storage was the iPhone 15 Pro Max. It’s likely that the iPhone 16 Pro will do the same, and there are rumors that this year’s iPhone 16 handsets will have the required minimum capacity due to AI requirements. In any case, the iPhone 16 Pro might be able to offer up to 2TB of on-board storage – which is double the maximum capacity currently offered by the iPhone – thanks to a new reported memory type. But memory speeds might be affected as a result.
Regarding connectivity, it’s speculated that the iPhone 16 Pro will include support for Wi-Fi 7, which delivers data across three bands for faster connections. According to another report, this will only be available on the Pro versions and not the regular models. It’s pretty clear that Apple won’t be using an in-house modem in the iPhone 16 Pro as Qualcomm previously said it would continue to provide Apple with modems until 2026.
iPhone 16 Pro: Battery
The primary rumor about the iPhone 16 Pro’s battery is a simple one: there could be a 2% increase in battery capacity.
This probably won’t be enough on its own to significantly change the phone’s battery life compared to the iPhone 15 Pro. However, perhaps future improvements will allow us to employ this model a little more often than before.The most obvious one is that battery life could potentially reach up to 30 hours overall.
Whether the iPhone 16 Pro will get the same new shell and density update as the iPhone 16 Pro Max is a matter of some debate. For the smaller Pro model, this would mean even more capacity and better battery life; however, the iPhone 17 Pro could get such improvements instead. Still, there are rumors that Apple iPhone could put the battery in 16 models — including the Pro — as this would make it easier to replace the battery.
iPhone 16 Pro: Software
Although iOS 18 was only mentioned as being compatible with current iPhone models, it’s likely that this version will also work with the iPhone 16 Pro and other devices released this fall. Apple released a sample of iOS 18 in June.
iOS 18 adds a number of new features, including a new Photos app, improved Mail, Notes and other productivity tools, as well as a new look with a more customizable iPhone home screen. It’s possible that some of iOS 18’s features are exclusive to the iPhone 16 Pro, but we won’t know for sure until the device is released.
Thus, the iPhone 16 Pro’s speculated A18 chipset suggests that Apple’s upcoming flagship gadget will be capable of running Apple Intelligence capabilities. Apple is starting to integrate those AI-powered features into all of its products, not just the iPhone.
Based on what we’ve seen, Apple Intelligence provides writing tools for your phone, including proofreading and tone recommendations. Using generative editing tools, you can create new emoticons (“Genmoji,” as Apple refers to them.) Additionally, Siri is becoming more intelligent. Although this functionality may not be available until sometime in 2025, the assistant will be able to apply context to your requests.
iOS 18 is currently available as a developer beta, with a public beta coming later this month. At the end of the year, Apple Intelligence will be available under the Preview label.
iPhone 16 Pro: Outlook
The iPhone 16 Pro is unlikely to be released before Apple’s September event. So, there’s still a good chance that new reports could surface and offer new information about the iPhone 16, the first of Apple’s Pro series.
But it looks like the iPhone 16 Pro will get a significant update soon. It includes a bigger screen, a 5x optical zoom tetraprism lens, Wi-Fi 7, an improved ultrawide angle camera, Apple Intelligence AI, and more.
